DI questions look intimidating but follow predictable patterns. Master them and you bank 4–6 easy marks every mock.
1. Tabular DI — most common, 5 questions from one table 2. Bar Chart — single or grouped bars 3. Line Graph — trend over time 4. Pie Chart — percentage breakdown, often 2 pies to compare 5. Caselet DI — paragraph-form, no visual (hardest)
1. Read the title and units first. 80% of mistakes come from ignoring units (crores vs lakhs, % vs absolute). 2. Note the totals. Pie chart totals, table column sums — these unlock most questions. 3. Approximate aggressively. 47.3% ≈ 50%, 23/47 ≈ 1/2. Speed precision. 4. Compute ratios, not absolutes. Most DI questions are ratio-based.
1. Mixed units: table in lakhs, options in thousands 2. Percentage vs percentage-point: "increase of 5%" vs "increase of 5 percentage points" 3. Wrong base year: comparing 2024 to 2022 instead of 2023 4. Cumulative vs annual: line graph showing running total mistaken for yearly value
For paragraph-form DI: Extract numbers into a quick mental table Identify relationships (A = B + C, etc.) Solve the easiest question first — it often reveals the data structure
